10th Annual Siltcoos Lake
Stringer Tournament Results

Westlake, Oregon ~ Arizona Youth Lands Big One and Wins Big!!! ~ The 10th Annual Siltcoos Lake Stringer Tournament was held Saturday & Sunday, May 23rd and 24th, 2009, Memorial Day weekend. 36 participants and prizes totaling more than $2,300, made this the biggest group of anglers and the largest prize amount in the event’s history. Rookie Alex Baker, age 14, of Maricopa, Arizona landed a 4 pound 13 ounce rainbow trout on Sunday morning to secure Tournament 1st Place ($450) and Big Fish ($180), all in one motion.

“The fish took almost all of my line before I was able to slow him down,” exclaimed Alex as he beamed with excitement following the weigh-in at noon on Sunday. Alex went on to say, “Once it was in the net, I simply couldn’t believe my eyes - it was the biggest trout I’ve ever caught - probably the biggest trout I’ve ever seen!” Second year participant Floyd Larson of Dunes City placed 2nd ($180) with 3 fish weighing 3 pounds 7 ounces and Chad Hilden, also from Maricopa, placed 3rd ($90) with 3 fish weighing 2 pounds 6 ounces.

While fishing was better this year than last, there were still only 31 fish caught for the 36 contestants. Bob Morgan of TreasureLine presented the 1st Place Trophy ($400). Once again, everyone, including several bystanders, coveted this inlay wood art beauty. We had even more great sponsors this year.

Vince Villegas from Westlake Resort presented a $130 Gift Certificate. Sue Slonecker, representing Darling’s Marina and RV Resort, donated a $260 Gift Certificate and a $100 cash prize. Darlings also hosted free hors doeuvres on Friday from 4-7 pm. Sue Dietz of Captain’s Cottages presented a $140 Gift Certificate and Fred & Judy Wudell donated a $65 Tide Clock. Pat Ryle of Granny Pat’s Pantry awarded a $54 Gift Box of Jams and Erik Johnson, C&S Fire Safe Services, donated a $50 Fire Extinguisher.

Has anyone ever heard of a three way tie for 15th Place???

Thanks to all of our generous sponsors this year, we had prizes down through 19th Place. A complete list of sponsors is posted at the bottom of each years results page.

The total number of fish caught increased from 8 last year to 31 this year and the average fish weight decreased by 12oz from 1# 9oz last year to 0# 13oz this year.
